AT HOME

Once food enters our home, there are many ways it could get thrown away uneaten. This can happen at every stage from storage to cooking to actual consumption. The good news is that the home is also where we have the most control over whether food is wasted or not.

DATE LABEL CONFUSION

Date labels on products are not strictly regulated or widely understood by consumers. They also aren’t necessarily reflective of when food is actually unfit to consume. This can lead to people throwing away food which is still perfectly good to eat.

OVERLY-HEARTY PORTIONS

OVERLY-HEARTY PORTIONS

Meals cooked from the heart are usually characterised by generous portions. But leftovers once cooked with the best intentions can lead to the stuffing of our landfills.

INCORRECT STORAGE

We may not know how to store perishables properly. Sometimes, we leave packaged goods at the back of the cupboard, filling our kitchens with forgotten foods. By the time we think about eating these foods, they may already be well past their best.
